Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria's largest holiday resort, is the second largest resort of its kind in Europe, after Benidorm. Each shopping centre houses a good selection of restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as other services such as banks, supermarkets, money exchange bureaus, and amusement arcades. The Kasbah centre is the preferred choice for clubs and the Yumbo centre for the gay scene and gay nightlife.

Playa del Ingles is between two smaller resorts: Maspalomas and San Agustín. Together, they share the same beach that’s 8km in length and more than 3km in width. Playa del Inglés (Spanish for “Englishman’s beach”) is a quirky name given to the area by the locals.
